The first compound microscope, which used multiple lenses in a tube, is credited to Zacharias Janssen, a Dutch spectacle maker, in the late 16th century. He and his father, Hans Janssen, are believed to have developed this early microscope around 1590. Their invention paved the way for advancements in microscopy, enabling greater magnification and observation of small objects.
