What type of outdoor furniture would be best to put in my garden, wood, plastic, or metal?

Metal furniture will last the longest but all of the materials you listed need annual treatments to help them last. Wood needs to be resealed. Metal needs to be treated to prevent rusting. Plastic doesn't need much care beyond general cleaning but leaving it in the sun will make it break down faster.
