What is Native American sweetgrass?

Other common names for sweetgrass are bison or buffalo or vanilla grass. The scientific name is Hierochloe odorata. It is a perennial plant whose existence is becoming rare. It used to be quite common in California. There are pictures, and a helpful article, at www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetgrass.
