Around the time the Mongrol fleet invaded Japan the samurai began to change the way the did battle and rather than on horseback with bow and arrow the warriors relied more and more on sWords and traveled by foot.

The lesser officials and ordinary samurai, foot soldiers, clerks, sevants and even horseman traveled by foot.
