The Greek Colossus, known as the Colossus of Rhodes, was a massive statue of the sun god HeliOS, erected on the island of Rhodes around 280 BC to celebrate the island's victory over Cyprus. Standing approximately 33 meters (108 feet) high, it was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Constructed from bronze and stone, the statue symbolized the unity and strength of the Rhodian people. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC, and its remains were left on the ground for centuries.
