No. To say that a psychologist and a psychotherapist are the same would be a little like saying a doctor and a dentist are the same. A dentist, of course may be a "doctor" (i.e., of dentistry) and Dr. Jones may be a dentist. But really, the terms aren't synonomous. A clinical or counselling psychologist is trained and licenced in the discipline of psychology. As a psychologist he or she may undertake psychotherapy as a practice, as might a suitably qualified nurse, social worker, psychiatrist, pastor or clinical counsellor. Psychotherapy is an activity and a "psychotherapist" someone, of whatever profession, who undertakes that activity.
