When did ash catch toototile?

Ash caught Totodile in the episode titled "Totodile Duel," which is the 8th episode of "Pokémon: The Johto Journeys." This episode originally aired in Japan on May 2, 1999, and in the United States on November 6, 1999. Ash encounters Totodile while traveling in Johto, and after a brief battle, he successfully catches it. Totodile then becomes a part of his team for the Johto League.
