Hammurabi was an ancient ruler in Mesopotamia (now known as Iraq). He was the first one to write all of his rules down. He wrote all of his rules on giant pillars. In total he had 280 rules! His rules were basically if you do something bad the same thing will be done to you or sometimes worse.

Hammurabi was the king of Babylonia (Mesopotamia) from 1792 to 1750BC. He made Babylon the capital city of the Babylonian Empire. He made the first (known) laws, called Code of Hammurabi. It was carved on a stone slab and consisted of 282 case laws. They dealt with everyday life, protected property, sentenced criminals. The principle was 'an eye for eye' or a tooth for a tooth.ill be done to you or sometimes worse.
