If it is the 5th gen 30 GB or 60 GB you simply will run a guitar pic throughout the space between the back casing and the front. pry the front off. There will then be two ribbon cables that will both need to be removed. Remove them (carefully!) with a flathead screw driver. There will be a little lock you push up on, they will then become free and release. Once this is done the case is free from the rest of the iPod Lift the hard drive up and remove the ribbon cable attaching that to the motherboard the same way you did with the other ribbon cable. The rest of it once you get in is pretty self explanatory.
