Juan Ponce de León's expedition was sponsored by Spain. He was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who is best known for his quest for the Fountain of Youth, as well as for being the first European to set foot in Florida in 1513. His explorations were part of Spain's broader efforts to colonize and explore the New World during the Age of Discovery.
