10-20 feet off the ground at least ten feet from branches or other trees to avoid predators if the temperature in summer stays below 100 degrees then needs about 6hr a day in direct sunlight If the temperatures average 80 degrees or lower then 10hrs of direct sunlight per day is required. preferably within a mile of sitting water due to increases in bug quantities for feeding. hope this helps
