Were there ever any female explorers?

Certainly if one includes mountaineers and adventuresses such as Amelia Earhart, who by the way, was denied membership in the Explorer"s club because she was a woman. One would expect more gentlemanly conduct from such members as Admiral Byrd , for example. the club lifted its ban some time around l98l.
