Amethyst, a variety of quartz, does not melt in the traditional sense as it is a mineral. Instead, it begins to lose its crystalline structure and changes form at temperatures around 1,600 to 1,700 degrees Celsius (2,912 to 3,092 degrees Fahrenheit). However, it can also undergo changes in color and clarity when exposed to high heat.
