When did America gain freedom?

America was never unfree. The British colonists living in Virginia, Massachusetts and the like were free Englishmen with the same rights as their brothers at home. The majority of America was either bought or taken from the Spanish. The only unfree were the native Indians and the black slaves. The black slaves were not freed in American until July, 1865. Slavery had been abolised 30 years previously in Britain and 70 years previously in France.
