The function of blood is to transport oxygen (O) from the lungs to body tissues and organs, to transport carbon dioxide (CO2) from the body tissues and organs back to the lungs to be expelled, to transport hormone chemical messengers, to transport nutrients absorbed from digestion to other areas of the body, to filter waste products through the kidneys, and to help transport white blood cells and aid in immune response.
