The constructivist approach (2) to learning is more in accordance with what is now expected of the knowledge worker (information retrieval, complex problem-solving, higher-thinking, communication, and collaboration skills). The task-at-hand being the preparation of all students to be lifelong learners, and socially responsible productive citizens, a new vision of learning, indeed, is necessary (see SchoolNet's document: the Vision of learners in the 21st century).
