Alaska is the easternmost state in

the US. The Aleutian Islands are part of Alaska. Attu is the

westernmost island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The 180th

meridian (the International Date Line) crosses the Aleutian

Islands. Attu is on the opposite side of the 180° longitude line

and is in the Eastern Hemisphere. Therefore Attu is the easternmost

area in the U.S.
