How did Pontoon Beach Illinois get its name?

There are two theories regarding the origin of "Pontoon Beach." The first theory is that the residents built a bridge that was supported by pontoon boats across Long Lake. The second theory is that, due to steep banks, the residents created docks that were floated on pontoon boats. This created a "beach" of pontoons.
