Why does your Subaru Forester starter motor just spin but not engage the first couple of times when it's cold When it's warm it engages fine?

i had the same problem with mine so i took the starter motor off and sprayed heaps of wd40 or any silicon spray that doesnt conduct electricity and it been working great over the last 6months since i did it
