What is a description of a basement?

A basement is a floor that is under the ground floor and either completely or mostly underground. They are commonly used as utility spaces, housing the heating, venting and air conditioning systems, water heaters, circuit breakers and any other mechanical systems used in the house.

A basement can be finished, where it looks like any other floor in the building with walls, doors, carpeting or unfinished with exposed pipes and other materials.

Basements can be used in many ways including combinations of storage areas, utility rooms, laundry room, work rooms, recreational areas, bedrooms, offices or many other uses.
