What type of fruits do gorillas eat?

Gorillas do not conventionally eat any type of animal.

Gorillas are herbivores, but it is not unheard of for some to eat meat. Gorillas in captivity, for instance, may develop a taste for other foods if afforded access to them.

There was some speculation that Gorillas may discretely hunt for meat in the wild following discovery of DNA from other mammals (monkeys, specifically) in their faeces. The jury is still out on this one, as it has been argued that such DNA could have been introduced by contact after the fact, and there has not been much study devoted to it.

It should be noted that herbivores generally [i]can[/i] gain sustenance from meat, but true carnivores are unable to extract adequate nutrition from vegetable matter, so while it would be surprising to find a gorilla with a taste for meat, it certainly would not be as strange and implausible as discovering a vegetarian lion.
