When would a spear be used in Australia?

When native Aboriginals went hunting for food, spears would be thrown at an animal.

The spear would pierce through the animal causing it to bleed and eventually die. They would then take it back to camp and they would cook it and eat it.

Aboriginals still use spears to this day as there are still natives living off the land.
