New Orleans, Louisiana, is a French port that was founded in 1718. The port city in question was established under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville (Feb. 23, 1680-March 7, 1767) of Montreal, New France. It was selected because of its high-ground access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River.
