Selflessness means putting the needs of others before your own.

For example, you have plans to go the the movies with your chums, but you discover that your mother has just learned that she can get her doctor's appointment moved up to today. You volunteer to baby sit the little slug who passes as your brother instead of going to the movies.

That is an act of selflessness.
