What is the opedius complex?

The Oedipus complex is a psychoanalytic theory proposed by Sigmund Freud, describing a child's unconscious desire for the opposite-sex parent and rivalry with the same-sex parent. Named after the Greek mythological figure Oedipus, who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother, the complex typically occurs during the phallic stage of psychosexual development, around ages three to six.
