Yes. Canned food can go bad. . .
- If it has not been properly processed, microorganisms can start to grow and spoil the food.
- If the can becomes damaged, air and/or microbes can enter causing spoilage.
- If the can is stored at too high a temperature, thermophiles could grow causing spoilage.
- With age, the contents of the can could react with the can itself causing chemical changes which would make the food inedible.
- Clear containers (glass or plastic jars) allow light to oxidized the food causing color and flavor changes.
- Age alone allows time for chemical changes in the food which adversely affect color and flavor
