Are some floods are useful

Some floods are very useful. Floods carry sediment that are often rich in nutrients. Many coastal civilizations historically (Egyptians on the Nile) have relied on floods to fertilize their agricultural lands. These lands would otherwise be infertile and not be able to support the great populations that grew along the river.
