What is filter in science?

Filtration is a process of separating a mixture of solid suspended in liquid.

A filter paper is used in the process , then the mixture is poured over the filter paper , the liquid passes , but the solid particles suspended in the liquid , are stopped by the filter paper as residue.

Thus , They get separated.
