Is metlife insurance company registered and reliable?

I can't believe that you are not familiar with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company with their Snoopy cartoon commercials. Metlife as it is also largest insurance company in the United States. It was founded in 1868, became a mutual company in 1915, then went public and again became a stock company in 2000. They are primarily a life insurance company but do write auto and home insurance on a limited basis in some states through Metlife P & C. As a matter of full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Agency for the past 22 years and worked as an agent for direct writers for 3 years prior to that.
