How do cockroaches protect themselves?

The fast ones mostly run away and hide in a save place. Hissing cockroaches are equipped with spiky legs and produce a hissing sound by expelling air from their spiracles. The hiss is quite loud and startles animals that are preying on the insect. Cockroaches are able to detect movement very quickly, giving them enough time to escape.
