Librium is in the class of benzodiazapines and is used as an anti-anxiety med, used to eliviate the symptoms of withdrawl from alchol and as an anti-anxiety/ apprehension before surgery to calm your nerves. If you taper off of it slowly there really shouldn't be any problem. It's not the stongest anti-anxiety on the market. Ask your pharmacist, they really are a wealth of information. Librium has a half life of 5-30 hours. Half-life: time taken for blood concentration to fall to half its peak value after a single dose. Half-life of active metabolite [36-200]. This time may vary considerably between individuals. Librium is an effective medication. However most "Benzo's" aren't recommended to be taken but for 2-4 weeks MAX. This creates dependance. It can range from sleep disturbance, to depression, to overwhelming fear. I would suggest you check out the links section I posted a valuable link there.. it is worth checking out for those worried about stopping the use of any kind of benzodiazepine.
