Why are baby owls born with there eyes closed?

Puppies eyes and ears are sealed at birth to stop infection. The mother might have so discharge and bacteria around the vagina at birth so their eyes and ears are sealed to prevent it. At 10-14 days they have enough antibodies from the mothers milk to fight infection.
