No. If a child is having difficulty understanding something, yelling at them will only intimidate him and make it more difficult for him. You need to calmly discuss it with the child, and try to determine why the child is having a hard time understanding. And then be patient and understanding when explaining the work to the child.
Children respond much better to a positive attitude than they do a negative one. And yelling is definitely a very negative attitude. You have to remember, they are not adults, they can't control their emotions as well as adults, and yelling at them will only serve to make them afraid of making a mistake.
Yelling at a child also affects their self esteem. And once their self esteem is damaged, it takes a LOT to restore it to a healthy state. Yelling is actually nothing more than a form of verbal and emotional abuse. It is also a form of revenge. Yes, revenge. The adult gets frustrated, which leads to anger at the child, so they take it out on them by yelling at them. Not only does this not solve the problem, but it makes it much worse.
So when trying to explain something to a child, explain it to them as many times as it takes for them to understand, and do it calmly. Some children are quicker to grasp things than others, but that does not mean they are stupid or lazy. It simply means they are having difficulty understanding that particular thing. It is no different from an adult having trouble understanding certain things.
We all have areas in which we Excell, as well as areas in which we don't do as well. Why should children be expected to be any different? Please, do not yell at a child who is having problems with understanding something. I don't know of single adult who has never had trouble understanding certain things themselves. So why should more be expected of a child?
