Unit pricing is the price per ounce usually. Sometimes they try to confuse you or make you work too hard, they hope, to save money by using the total price as in price per package. If the package was a pound they would put unit price of a pound and not 16 ounces.
You can see it on the small bar coded label under the item on the front of the shelf.
And if you look, you can see that sometimes also to get more money out of you, the family pack will cost more per ounce than the smaller pack.
You can determine which size of a brand is priced the best or which brand amongst the name brands is more reasonable. Or you can see the drastic difference between the store brand and name brands. It'll make you think twice about blind consumerism.
And sometimes the name brand on sale is better priced than the store brand or you can clip coupons.
