Specifically, the term designates the inhabitants of Jack Prelutsky's (born 1940) and Peter SÃÂs' (born 1949) Scranimal Island. Scranimals (Greenwillow Books, 2002) introduces readers to fantasy wildlife whose forms may draw upon a mix of animal and plant forms:
Antelopetunia from an antelope and petunia;
Avocadodo from an avocado and a dodo;
Hippopotamushroom from a hippopotamus and a mushroom;
Mangorilla from a mango and a gorilla;
Orangutangerine from an orangutang and a tangerine;
Pandaffodil from a panda and a daffodil;
Potatoad from a potato and a toad;
Radishark from a radish and a shark;
Rhinocerose from a rhinoceros and a rose.
Or the wildlife may combine animal and animal forms:
Ostricheetah from an ostrich and a cheetah;
Petrelephant from a storm petrel and an elephant.
