Rover 75 2lt diesel Oil Filter LocationGood question - fooled me for some time . I can only answer for a Rover 75 2lt diesel - the one with the BMW engine. The filter is a paper cartridge type located on top of the engine instead of the more usual metal cartridge type which one screws in place. If you open the bonnet and look left of centre just behind the radiator you will see the yellow oil level dipstick. The filter is housed in the black plastic circular housing just behind and slightly below the dipstick. Not the bigger tank elevated to the left of the dipstick. The housing has a 36mm plastic nut on top which is a bit of a pig to undo unless you have a 36mm socket. Unscrew and take off with some kitchen roll to hand. Paper oil filter element will be seen and can be lifted out and replaced.
Do take care on refitting screw cap. You will note on the cap a recommended torque of 25.5 Nm. I don't usually bother but do take care not to overtighten and crack, or undertighten and loose oil.
Paper elements are nice and cheap.
on rover 75 1.8 ltr petrol filter is just above drain plug which is on front of sump
