What happened to the number of unemployed people after Franklin D. Roosevelt became president in 1933?

Unemployment figures were not as accurate in the 1930s as they are today. Plus a lot of men pretended to have jobs so as not to embarrass their family and thus were not counted among the unemployed. Also, the men who "rode the rails" could have been counted in more than one state. Some historians think the unemployment rate went as high as 40 percent during the worst years of the Depression.
