Both pilots should be aware of an impending collision and must take take immediate action. First things is to slow down and go towards the port (left) and see if the other craft does likewise. If they don't then you need to go towards starboard (right). Every boat pilot needs to keep their head on a swivel at all times ... they must always be aware of their surroundings at all times.
