It depends on the date and design:

  • All silver dollars (1794-1935) had a various images of Miss Liberty on the front and and of the American Eagle on the back.
  • Eisenhower dollars (copper-nickel, 1971-74 and 1977-78) had a picture of President Eisenhower on the front and an eagle landing on the Moon on the back. 1976 coins had a Liberty Bell and Moon image, in honor of the Bicentennial.
  • Susan B. Anthony dollars (copper-nickel, 1979-81,1999) had a picture of womens' rights advocate Anthony on the front and the same image of an eagle landing on the Moon on the back.
  • Sacajawea dollars (2000-present) have an interpretive image of that Native guide on the front. Coins from 2000 to 2008 a soaring eagle on the back; since then there is a different image based on Native American themes each year.
  • Presidential dollars (2007-present) have images of various US presidents, in order of their service. The back has a picture of the Statue of Liberty.
