Why are some materials better insulators than others?

Insulation is directly proportional to resistance. More resistance means more insulation. And if a material is denser (i.e. the particles are situated closer to each other), then the resistance is more.

Hence, more density-->more resistance-->better insulation

And since different materials have different density, hence they also have different insulations.
