What is the meaning of the word 'personification'?

It means attaching human traits to non human things. If you had trouble getting a program to run on your computer, you might tell someone "My computer hates me" but of course the computer is just a machine.

Personification is also used as a literary devise. A building or a river can become a character in a story as if it were a person.
