From 1985 to 1988 he was director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization. He started with a staff of one and had increased that to 13 by the time he left. From 1999 to 2002 he was (rather famously) the director of the 8 person 'Woods Fund Board', along with his neighbor William Ayers, one of the co-founders of the terrorist group The Weatherman, who has admitted to and says he has no regrets about bombing the Capitol Building, the Pentagon, and the police headquarters in New York City.
