The English channel lies between England and which country?

A narrow body of water that has provided significant protection to the United Kingdom (or, "England") throughout the centuries, the English Channel lies between the U.K. and portions of northern France on the European continent. It should be noted that the Channel is properly designated as that body of water which connects the North Sea with the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern coast of France.
