What does yellow red and black mean on a flag?

The plant represented on the All Black jersey is the silver fern (ponga) which is a national symbol of New Zealand. The ponga leaf is green on the topside and silver underneath. The silver glows in the moonlight and Maori would simply turn over a ponga leaf in order to mark trails that needed to be followed in the forest at night.
