Why is eternity capitalized in the poem Because I could not stop for death?

She personifies "Death", making it seem like a Southern gentleman inviting her on an evening carriage ride. The way in which she personifies "Death" is, however, quite ironic considering how it is most often personified. In many forms of literature and poetry, death is depicted as a ghastly form, rotted and cloaked in darkness while using a large blade or scythe to "reap" the lives of people. In this poem, Dickinson portrays and personifies Death as something completely opposite of what we expect. He is not only seen as a gentleman, but as kind and patient. As far as we know, death usually waits for nobody. In this case, he is kind enough to stop for the speaker when she could not stop for him.
