Major Mitchell. They were named after similar ranges in Scotland.

The Grampians is a mountain range in western Victoria, and forms the far southern end of the Great Dividing Range. Early explorer of Australia, Major Thomas Mitchell, who was the Surveyor General of New South Wales, discovered the range on his third expedition, in 1836.
