What does God say about forgiveness in order for us to forgive?

According to The Bible if you accept Jesus as your lord and savior and then ask for forgiveness and try to repent you will be forgiven of all sins except for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Yes according to the Bible, if we repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we shall not see death but have the light of life. What does God say about forgiving sin? Let's examine the Words of scripture on this matter.

"Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins."(Hebrews 9:22)

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

"My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." (1 John 2:1)

"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." (Acts 3:19)

"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted." (Isaiah 43:25-26)

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus …" (Romans 8:1)

Those are some verses in scripture that relate to the idea of forgiveness and shedding of sins.

We must be careful to try and understand the implications here though. How can our sins be forgiven if we all stand guilty and condemned before God as transgressors of his law? Surely a criminal does not stand before a judge and just claim he is sorry for the crimes he has committed expecting that to convince the judge to release him. Will that set him free? Would it be Just for that judge to let the criminal go because he apologized?We have no power to redeem ourselves. Many think they can simply try to be good people to get to Heaven or try and make up for the bad they've done with good. However, the Word of God states that our bestworks are like filthy rags before God. Sin taints everything we do in our natural states. And if our best works are like filthy rags, what do you suppose our worst works look like? How much more will God, who is infinitely Just, do justice?

We need to obtain righteousness.

Christ can be the only way. God is a Holy God and sin separates us from him. The only way to have perfect reconciliation does not rely within our own selves(our own good works) for the Bible says even our best works are like filthy rags before God. Many people ask if we can just ask for forgiveness. Well asking for it is good, my friend, but without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Repentance is what we need. There needs to be atonement. God is a Just God. Do you stand before a judge after haven broken the law and say to him "Hey, I am sorry but I am mostly a good person, can't you just forgive me?"..would it be just for the judge to let that criminal go? No. In the same way, we have transgressed the law of God and are criminals(sinners), by nature we are enemies of God. Therefore, it is not Just for God to let one who stands before him in their sins go, right? We ought not to trust out own "goodness" for salvation or try to earn our way into Heaven, we need righteousness for without holiness no one will see the Lord. How then, can wicked sinners be made right with a Holy God? The answer relies only in Christ Jesus. The sins of people were imputed to him, he became sin, he himself became a curse ( for it is written, "cursed is every man that hands on a tree") he took upon himself the curse of the law and died for the ungodly so that those who have saving faith in him would have his righteousness imputed to them by faith. And only by faith, not by works. Salvation of someone depends solely on the finished work of Christ on their behalf."God made Him (Christ), who knew no sin, to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ rose again from the dead to give eternal life. The sacrifice of Christ then allows for God to be bothJust and the justifier of wicked men so that now the analogy of the criminal and judge would no longer be valid. The crimes (sins) will be been forgotten and paid for in full then allowing for that criminal to be free. Not only this but we also can enter into perfect reconciliation to God on behalf of the perfection of Jesus Christ, we can receive adoption in Spirit as children of God

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." Romans 5:9-11
