In the old days like the 40s people were very superstitious and they thought if you bring mirrors around and say that persons name 3 times they will either come back and tell you how they felt about the situation before they died or they might want you to avenge their death. So in the end result it brought bad luck when you see there face and break the mirror there soul is trapped because you did not give them the proper time to cross over to the next dimension.
