The Rub' al Khali, also known as the Empty Quarter, is one of the driest places on Earth with an average annual rainfall of less than 3 cm (1.2 in). It is a large desert in the Arabian Peninsula covering parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
