Who was Rabbi?

1) Judaism has had hundreds of thousands of rabbis throughout the generations, from Abraham until today. 2) One person who as a mark of honor is sometimes called simply "Rabbi" without further naming, was Rabbi Judah Hanassi ("the prince"), who lived around 120 CE to 190 CE. It was he who led the final collation of the Mishna (Jewish Oral Torah), which is the central content of the Talmud, and around which the rest of the Talmud serves as commentary.
